An introduction to engineering, conducted as a high school subject

Flight One’s High School Aircraft Engineer Programme offers students a head start in aviation maintenance. This program provides hands-on experience in aircraft systems, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols, laying the groundwork for future careers in aerospace engineering – while also delivering skills transferable to dozens of other industries.

In the one-day-per-week school subject, Students engage in practical training sessions, workshops, and classroom instruction, gaining valuable insights into the aviation industry. Upon completion, participants are well-prepared to pursue further education or apprenticeships in aircraft engineering, equipped with foundational skills and knowledge that set them apart in the competitive field of aviation maintenance.

This programme is funded in Adelaide by the South Australian Government.

Aircraft Engineer Apprentice Programme.

Designed for individuals working in an aircraft maintenance environment

Flight One’s Aircraft Engineer Apprentice Programme offers a structured pathway for individuals aiming to excel in aircraft maintenance. This program provides hands-on experience in either mechanical or avionics specialisations, covering essential skills such as system diagnostics, component repair, and adherence to safety protocols.

Apprentices engage in on-the-job workplace training, gaining valuable insights into the aviation industry. Upon completion, participants are well-prepared to pursue careers as licensed aircraft engineers, equipped with the foundational skills and knowledge that set them apart in the competitive field of aviation maintenance. Our programme doesn’t require typical multi-week ‘block release’ at a remote site – rather classroom training and simulation requirements are conducted as small individual blocks throughout the 2-3 year programme.

To be eligible, applicants must already have an active contract with an aircraft maintenance provider, and support from their employer.

Flight One’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme offers a pathway for seasoned aircraft engineers to obtain formal qualifications by assessing and accrediting their existing skills and experience. This process enables professionals to achieve CASA Part 66 licences efficiently, reducing the need for redundant training.

Through an evaluation of competencies, the RPL programme identifies any gaps and provides targeted training to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. With initial RPL report processing typically conducted in 12-16 weeks, participants benefit from a personalised approach that acknowledges their expertise, facilitating eventual transition to certified status within the aviation industry.
