The course, delivered at Adelaide Airport, will take approximately 7 months and includes a Certificate II in Aeroskills plus additional training units that comprehensively equip you to transition into workplaces and apprenticeships in aircraft maintenance, or similar fields in industry and defence.

Engineering Foundations

The Flight One Certificate II in Aeroskills Job-Seeker Programme introduces adult learners to the fundamentals of aircraft maintenance engineering in a real aviation setting. Designed to cater to beginners, the course covers essential hand skills, workplace safety, and the basics of aircraft systems. Trainees gain transferable skills that are valuable not only in aviation but also in industries like automotive, mining, and manufacturing and defence. The programme provides an overview of both avionics (electrical and navigation systems) and mechanical systems (engines, hydraulics, and airframes), preparing students for further studies, apprenticeships or employment.

Pathways & Qualification Outcomes

This qualification equips trainees with entry-level skills for roles in aircraft maintenance workshops, supporting tasks like basic repairs and component servicing under supervision. Delivered by trainers with decades of experience across commercial, military, and general aviation, the programme ensures students gain practical, industry-relevant knowledge.

Eligibility

To be eligible to join this special course, candidates must be un/under-employed, Australian or NZ citizen (or eligible visa holder) residing in South Australia, not be enrolled in high school, vocational, or university training and minimum 16 years of age at commencement. Please note that ACIC AusCheck (criminal history), ASIO and immigration clearances may be required and the training place is subject to drug and alcohol management plans.

The Flight One Certificate II in Aeroskills Job-Seeker Programme provides a hands-on introduction to aircraft maintenance engineering, covering both mechanical and avionics fundamentals. The course equips students with transferable skills in workplace safety, precision hand tools, and aircraft systems. With training delivered by industry experts, graduates gain foundational knowledge applicable to aviation, automotive, mining, and manufacturing industries.

Special arrangements have been made for industry guests and mentors to attend and provide additional industry context, insights and support to ensure that trainees are well informed and prepared to enter employment pathways – directly, or via an apprenticeship. Flight One Apprentice Programme team members will also provide guidance and advice regarding this popular industry pathway.

Certificate II in Aeroskills

The Certificate II in Aeroskills Job-Seeker course provides students with a range of versatile, foundational skills. The course includes:

  • MEA20418 Certificate II in Aeroskills (Nationally Recognised Training outcome)
  • 4 x Advanced Aeroskills Mechanical and Avionics A & B Skill Clusters (see units tab for details)
  • basic engineering theory, workplace practice and occupational health and safety
  • basic aviation theory and principles of flight
  • practical workshops to learn about mechanical and electrical components, hydraulics, pneumatics
  • using professional tools and equipment to undertake practical tasks
  • electronics, frame assembly and simple fabrication, software and flight controller preparation, motor and body assembly, flight testing

Graduates who have shown dedication and promise will also receive recommendations from the Flight One School of Engineering training team – an invaluable asset when job hunting and networking with potential employers.

 

Entry Criteria

General Requirements

Following are the entry requirements for the South Australian Funded Job-Seekers Certificate II in Aeroskills.

To be eligible for this course, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or hold an eligible visa; and

  • Be residing in South Australia at the time of application and throughout the course; and

  • Be unemployed or under-employed (as defined by South Australian Government funding guidelines); and

  • Be aged 16 years or older in the year of commencement; and

  • Successfully complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment as required by Skills SA; and

  • Attend a Flight One “Come & Try Day” or provide evidence of equivalent industry immersion or engagement (e.g. work experience, past employment, or a related training pathway)

Please note that there are several steps involved in the funded course approval process. After your initial application, we, along with your school, will provide more detailed information and assist you to meet the necessary requirements. Final approval of enrolment in funded courses rests with the SA Government.

Tuition Fees

Certificate II in Aeroskills Fees

The Certificate II Aeroskills is a funded course valued at $8,202. Funding provided by the South Australian Government covers $7,937.
A small co-contribution of $265 is therefore payable by the student. In some instances, the student’s employment agent, or a scholarship sponsor may elect to pay this fee.

No other fees are payable for this course.
