THIS PROGRAMME INCLUDES

Cirrus Aircraft™ CAPS Certificate

The Cirrus CAPS course at Flight One provides focused training in the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS), one of the most important safety features built into Cirrus aircraft. Delivered by Flight One within the Cirrus Approach training ecosystem, this course is designed to help pilots understand the system, the decision-making behind its use and the practical role it plays in Cirrus safety philosophy. At Flight One, the emphasis is not only on knowing what CAPS is, but on developing the judgement and confidence to use it appropriately when it matters most.

Who is this Course Suitable for?

The Flight One Cirrus Aircraft CAPS course is for pilots flying Cirrus aircraft with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS). The course teaches you when and how to use the parachute system in emergencies, helping you stay safe and protect your passengers. It gives you the skills and confidence to handle critical situations effectively.

Qualification Overview

About this Course

At Flight One, the Cirrus CAPS course is delivered as part of the broader Cirrus Approach ecosystem, the manufacturer’s standardised training framework used by approved Cirrus training providers worldwide. This means the course is not simply a standalone briefing on the parachute system. It sits within a structured training environment that combines Cirrus Approach digital learning with Flight One instructor-led guidance and practical operational discussion.

The course is designed to give Flight One pilots and Cirrus operators a deeper understanding of CAPS as an integrated safety tool within Cirrus aircraft operations. It focuses on the system itself, the situations in which deployment may be appropriate and the human factors that can affect emergency decision-making. At Flight One, this training supports the broader goal of helping pilots operate Cirrus aircraft in accordance with manufacturer guidance, standardised procedures and a strong safety mindset.

For pilots training or flying with Flight One, CAPS training also helps reinforce how the Cirrus Approach system fits together. Transition training, aircraft familiarisation, recurrent development and safety-focused modules such as CAPS all form part of the same manufacturer-supported training pathway. This gives pilots a clearer understanding of how CAPS fits within normal Cirrus operations rather than treating it as an isolated topic.

What You’ll Learn

Here’s what you’ll learn in the Flight One Cirrus Aircraft CAPS course:

  • How the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS) functions within Cirrus aircraft operated at Flight One
  • The purpose, design and operational role of CAPS as part of the Cirrus safety philosophy
  • When CAPS deployment may be appropriate in real-world scenarios such as loss of control, engine failure or deteriorating conditions
  • The decision-making principles that support early and effective CAPS use
  • CAPS deployment procedures, limitations and likely outcomes following activation
  • Human factors that can affect emergency response, including hesitation, denial and delayed action
  • How CAPS training fits within the wider Cirrus Approach ecosystem used by Flight One for Cirrus training and safety development
  • Greater confidence in applying manufacturer-supported safety principles during abnormal and emergency situations

This course equips you with the knowledge and confidence to use CAPS effectively in emergencies.

Additional Information & Options

The CAPS course can be seamlessly integrated with Flight One’s Cirrus Transition course to provide a comprehensive training experience for new Cirrus pilots. While the Transition course focuses on mastering the aircraft’s advanced avionics, handling, and operational systems, the CAPS course adds an essential layer of safety training by teaching pilots how and when to deploy the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System in emergencies. Together, these courses ensure that pilots not only feel confident flying their Cirrus aircraft but are also fully prepared to handle unexpected situations with the highest level of safety. This combined approach equips pilots with the skills and knowledge needed to operate Cirrus aircraft safely and effectively.
